Dartmoor at any time of year is magical, but during the early months of the year, the landscape takes on a spiritual wonder. With its ancient moors, valleys, rivers and woods there is no other place like it in the country. One of the most iconic is the ancient oak forest of Wistman’s Wood in the Dart River valley. Left unspoilt, Wistman’s Wood has grown wild and free, with its pure, clean air creating a haven of mosses and lichens that shroud the twisting, historic trees. Very little has changed in this valley for thousands of years and you are instantly transported back to another time. Given the evocative feel of the wood, it is no wonder that for years tales of ghosts and the supernatural have added to its mystery.
So, after a day exploring the wood and Dartmoor’s other magical sights return to a roaring fire, a mug of steaming hot chocolate, great local food and a warm welcome from our team at the Hotel.
