Cycling on Dartmoor is a great way to get out and enjoy the landscape. The cycling can be challenging with plenty of hills, but the area also has a range of cycle paths and recommended routes that are a little more gentle. We have a range of recommended routes for cyclists staying with us, please just ask. We also have details of local repair shops!
The Lands End to John O’Groats cycle ride
The Lands End to John O’Groats cycle ride is extremely popular as a fund-raising route, or simply as a serious personal cycling challenge. Moretonhampstead is the official ‘stop’ for the first leg of the recommended route and we offer a special rate for cycling groups.
The first leg of the End to End is said to be one of the most tiring of the whole adventure. There can be no doubt that the first day is a challenge, the navigation requires concentration and the cycling is demanding… so what could be more welcome at the end of your first day than a lovely comfy bed and a hot shower!
We also offer a secure lock-up facility for bicycles as well as our boiler room for drying out your clothes. We offer special Cycling Party group rates – please contact us for details.
Our contribution to your fund-raising
If you are cycling the Lands End to John O’Groats route for charity, the White Hart will donate 5% of your accommodation costs to that charity. Please contact us to confirm details.
The Dartmoor Way cycle route
The Dartmoor Way Cycle Route is a 95 mile-long circular route that winds its way around the beautiful Dartmoor National Park, linking hamlets, villages and towns along its length – including Moretonhampstead. This recreational route takes cyclists through the varying landscape surrounding the high moor, passing through attractive and interesting locations. The well-signed Dartmoor Way Cycle Route follows quiet Devon lanes and minor roads and uses traffic-free cycle tracks wherever possible.
Electric bikes make it fun!
