We have been busy wine tasting… a tough job but someone has to do it! Our new wine list devised with and supplied by, Majestic Wine Commercial, offers a great range of wines from across the globe.
General manager, Karen Kitshoff said: “We always listen to guest feedback so I am confident that the new wine list will prove popular. We have some great New World and French wines on the wine list and some very yummy South African pink bubbly!”
Hailing from South Africa, Karen has a natural fondness for the wines from what has become a world-leading wine producing region. Before moving to the UK, she ran a hotel in Somerset West where the now famous Vergelegen wine is produced by wine maker Andre Janse van Rensburg. “I worked with his sister, so got to know the wine and its pedigree very well!”
Somerset West borders Stellenbosch, the biggest wine region in the Western Cape. “Anyone who has visited Cape Town has very probably been to Stellenbosch, it’s a fantastic area. We have two superb wines from that region on the new list – a red, DMZ Quintet, a white, DMZ Chenin,” she adds.
Back on the wine list by popular request is a Picpoul from Southern France. Karen highlights the Graham Beck Rosé Sparkling from South Africa as a brilliant alternative to rosé Champagne.
Also singled out for mention is a fantastically rare rosé from Côtes-du-Rhône – delicate pale pink, with fresh crunchy red fruit, refreshing citrus and floral flavours and aromas.
The Hotel’s wine list has a good range of wines by the glass and bottle as well as mini bottles of prosecco and cava. “We also stock an English wine – Chapel Down Flint Dry – which is very good,” she adds.
