Fishing is one of the great activities around Dartmoor and we’re blessed with some of the finest wild trout river fly fishing in the country on our doorstep. There is also a wealth of wonderful stillwater trout fishing on the beautiful reservoirs around Dartmoor
We are keen fishers ourselves and love the fishing on our doorstep – we hope you will too.
What fishing do you offer?
We can offer our guests river fly fishing on the rivers Teign and Dart and stillwater trout fishing on the reservoirs around Dartmoor.
When is the fishing season?
The river trout fishing season opens on 15th March and ends on 30th September
Reservoir fishing runs from April through to October
How much does the fishing cost?
Visitor daily and weekly tickets for the rivers Dart and Teign are available from the hotel reception
The Teign costs £12.50 per day/ £45 per week for adults
The Dart is £10 per day
Reservoir permits are £12-£20 per day and are available from self service kiosks on site.
Is there a guide available?
There are a number of guides who can show you the water and get you started. The guiding service costs from £25 per hour and is mostly for a minimum of 3 hours. In this time you’ll be shown water, helped to tackle up and hopefully get you catching fish. Our guides have a wealth of experience – but if you need more instruction, we recommend that you try one of our qualified instructors.
I’ve never fly fished before. Do you have an instructor?
If you have never fly fished before, this is your chance! Our professional instructors will get you started and set you on track for a lifetime’s enjoyment.

Colin Pape and other qualified instructors with enormous local knowledge and can accommodate all ages and sizes of party.
I haven’t fished for a long time and am a bit rusty. Can you get me started?
Our local guides will get you going again, but if you want a thorough refresher, we recommend one of our qualified instructors who will help you with your casting, fly selection and tactics and will provide you with the most up to date and appropriate equipment so you get the most out of the experience.
Do I need a licence?
Yes, you need a licence from the Environment Agency. The licence to fish for trout costs £26 for a year or £9.50 for a week.

Do you have tackle available?
We keep a selection of fishing tackle that guests can hire and a stock of appropriate flies, leaders etc if you need some extras.
Can I arrange a packed lunch?
Packed lunches are available from the hotel. Let us know what you would like!
